Splits, Surprise Birthday Parties, and Sweets

This week was so much fun and Søster Morris and I were always running around from one thing to the next!

- We went on splits with our STL's in Kristansand on Tuesday and Wednesday and saw so many mirakles there. Søster Palmer and I went with a member, Michelle, to deliver some food to this lady that just had surgery. On the bus ride there I was able to talk to a muslim girl and we got around to talking about Fasting. She told me that she was fasting for Rammadon (not sure if that is spelled right) and told me about her family and her life. I was then able to talk about our church and how we fast too. It is always amazing to see the similarities that we have with other faiths and how we can relate to them and then build upon the knowledge that they already have. Søster Palmer and I then kontakted the rest of the day and gave out 14 Books of Mormon! One of the people that we talked to, we asked him "How would your life change if there was a living prophet on the earth today?" He then told us that his friend asked him that same exact question a couple weeks before. It is amazing to see the different ways that Heavenly Father is preparing people! We then got to hand out Books of Mormon at the Book of Mormon Musical with the Kristansand Elders and also the Cooks that are serving a couple mission there. We gave out 202 Books total at the musical! It is amazing to see how the church has turned the musical into such a positive thing! The Musical is coming back to Oslo and so we will be able to give out books this next week too!

-We had a miracle happen when we were weekly planning on the go. We were too busy during the rest of the day so we were trying to get it done while waiting for our buss. Someone came up to us and started a converstation. That is entirely uncommon here in Norway and especially for a Norwegian! We got to talking and Søster Morris and I were able to talk about the gospel. He is very interested and we got his number and have an appointment with him next week!

- We also had a surprise birthday party for Søster Morris. She is 20 now! So old! The Elders Landlords(yeah I know it sounds strange) made an amazing BBQ dinner for all of us and the Elders were able to get Søster Morris a succulent and some Peonies. We ate a lot of Ice cream, and may or may have not eaten ice cream 5 days out of 7 this past week...

- My favorite experience of this past week is Søster Morris and I got asked to teach gospel principles class at the very last minute in English. We have this amazing ward missionary that is from Africa and is bringing everyone that he comes in contact with to church, most of them being refugees and immigrants that can only speak english. Søster Morris and I taught the restoration, or the first lesson in preach my gospel. The spirit was so strong and when I bore my testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and it was a huge testimony builder for me. Our Mission Ward leader later said that the people sitting by him had tears in their eyes. It is amazing to see how the spirit touches people.

I hope that everyone is having a great summer so far! It is hotter than I ever thought it would be here in Norway. Lately we have been having a lot of experiences with member missionary work here in Asker. I invite all of you to pray for missionary experiences so that you can share this amazing gift we have with others. Ha det bra!
Love, Søster Starkie

  1. Quite a fun week! My best friend is getting married and she is planning a week out with me. I want to book a nice event venue to surprise her. She has always been the best to me and I was the one who used to make mistakes all the time and she’ll fix it. Can you help me give her a surprise?
